About this restoration project
At Decorative Plaster, we recently undertook a restoration project in a historic property in Govanhill, Glasgow. The building, rich with architectural heritage, featured a cornice that had seen better days. Time had taken its toll, with peeling paint and missing sections detracting from the cornice's original beauty. Our restoration process began with the careful removal of the old, peeling paint, a task that required precision to avoid damaging the delicate plaster underneath. With the paint stripped away, we could fully assess the cornice's condition and begin the restoration work. We then applied fresh plaster to restore the missing sections, paying close attention to detail to ensure that the new plaster seamlessly matched the original design. This hand-moulded plaster was crafted to replicate the intricate patterns that had been lost over time. After restoring the missing sections, a final sanding was performed to blend the new plaster with the old, creating a flawless, high-quality finish. The restored cornice now perfectly complements the property’s historical character, ready to stand the test of time once again.
